CONGO STREAM AT THE ASAUK CONFERENCE IN 2012 (Leeds, Sept 6-8)

The ASAUK (African Studies Association in the UK) is already preparing their biannual conference of September 2012 (Leeds, Sept 6-8). The organizers have invited the Congo Research Network to participate in this. 12 Congo related panels have been accepted.

If you wish to participate, you can join already accepted panels or you can submit a stand-alone paper. Participants should submit their paper abstracts via the ASAUK website. First, they should register as authors, then select the panel in which they want to participate, and then enter their abstract.

The deadline for the submission of paper abstracts is 27 April 2012.

The following panels have been accepted. Click on the panel titles to see panel abstracts.

1. Nourishing the state, feeding the people: The political economy of state building in the DRC

2. Between tutelage and policy space: Exploring the multiple logics in the DRC’s ties to international stakeholders in the country

3. The Congolese military in context

9. Theatre in DR Congo

10. Congolese Popular Music: local and global practices and their contexts, strategies and stakes.

11. Congo and the Politics of Culture

12. Revisiting the Congolese Sixties

If you wish to join an already accepted panel, contact the panel organizer. You can also submit a paper without adhering to a particular panel of course!

    I’m currently in touch with the organisers of the ASA-UK with regard to this Congo-themed research stream and wondered if we have any proposals or plans for panels. I would certainly be interested in participating in such a panel or acting as a discussant. Please send ideas to the three of us at our above email addresses.
